Having trouble opening .fla files in Flash MX

Hi,

Can anyone help me?

I'm using Flash MX, and when I get sent .fla files to edit I get a
"Unexpected file format" error or a "An unknow error has occured while
accessing ..<location of file.fla>"

Is this because I'm trying to edit/open .fla files that aren't compatible with
Flash MX?? Why is this the case?

If someone could shed some light on this that would be great as all .fla's
recently have been causging me problems.

sound like you try to opne flashMX2004 or flash8 foles in MX. that wount work.
An upgrade would help, or asking your source for those flas to save then in MX
format - which is not possible in Flash 8 though.
