Post subject: swf freezes in browser
Archived from groups: macromedia>flash (more info?)

I created an animation and published it in version 8. It works fine on my
machine and a few others, however I am told that it starts to play and then
"freezes" after a few seconds on another persons machine, who happens to be
located in Europe. Is this a player version issue, an issue with my file size
(i tried to keep the images at a high quality, or a connection issue? I am
using Flash 8.

Thanks for the help!

Do you have a heavy script in the movie, that has to calculate too many things
per frame? Or do you have a complex animation on a really big scene? There are
a lot of reasons for a swf to freeze (I call it skipping frames) on slower
computers. To mention a few more: too high framerate, inefficient or buggy
scripts, fake 3D effects with AS ....

It sure would help to get some specifics about your SWF, and browser/internet
conn. of the users having trouble. You ask these questions "Is this a player
version issue, an issue with my file size (i tried to keep the images at a high
quality, or a connection issue?" But don't give the specifics for us to answer.
What is the file size? What dpi are your images at? What connection do the
users have? What browser are they using? Also, _E_ has very valid questions
as well. Please be specific if you want to receive help.

The file size is 1.4mb, images are 72 dpi optimized in photoshop and scaled to
exact size, I believe the user is on a T1 connection, but I haven't confirmed
that with them yet and the browser is our coroporate issued IE 6. There is only
one "major" script used but the swf made it past that point in the timeline.
The animations are simple tweens that don't involve a lot of images or movement.

I am using 12fps, so i don't think that is the problem either. That's why I
asked if it could be a player version issue. I don't know what would happen if
they were using an old player, because I haven't ran across that before.

Thanks for your help!!!

Thats a large file size, but that shouldn't really have any affect. can you post a link please.

I can't post it today, it is on our internal server and it has to go through
another location to get posted (pain in the *** process!). I may be able to
post it to another location tonight and send you the link. Is there an e-mail
or IM address I could send it to?

Thanks!

I realized I forgot to mention that it has audio in it as well. Would that be causing my issues?

I don't think audio should cause such a problem, the only thing is if you have
a large stream and suddenly put a stop action somewhere in the timeline, the
audio would continue playing for a few seconds. But framerate shouldn't be
affected. What version of Flash Player has the computer on which it causes the
problem?
