I've read the posts here about the "compress movie" option in the publish
settings of flash and I understand that its using zip decompression on the fly
as the user downloads the movie. However, I'm wondering if there is ever a
time when you shouldn't compress the movie. It seems like since its an
optional field there might be situations where it wouldn't be desirable.

There is never a time to NOT compress .. no reason to ever turn it off.

I can add that if you check the Compress movie option, you will be unable to place a SWF into InDesign or Acrobat.

If you want to use a SWF file in other media, turn it off.
