I saw this a couple years ago, but I guess I have lost my bookmark - course now
I want to do it myself.

Lets say a had the screen divided into 3 areas.
Area "A" would contain a large map
Area "B" would be a smaller box located to the right of area "A"
Area "C" would be an area located below "A" and "B"

Clicking on a area within "A" would change "B" to show a zoomed in area of
where the mouse was clicked.
Clicking on a area within "B" would change "C" to display text, photos, etc.

Can somebody point me towards some examples/tutorials of something like this

A further thought...
Area "B" wouldn't have to be located next to area "A", in fact I think it
would be better if area "B" was actually centered over cross hairs moved by the
mouse. As the cross hairs moved around the screen, area "B" would show a
zoomed in area of the map.

I'll see if I can draw something and post it here in a little while.

Here is a visual example
http://www.bray.com/rollover.jpg

The big picture would represent area "A"
The smaller white outline box area "B"
And area "C" would be down below
Notice the thin white lines going from top to bottom and side to side
represtent the crosshairs and will move around within the big picture as the
mouse moves. Area "B" would remain centered on these crosshairs and would show
a fullsize image of the area immediately around where the crosshairs are
located. On a mouse click would change area "C" to pull up some detail text,
photos, etc.

The large picture will actually be a map as opposed to a pure photo as shown
here, it was just easiest to grab a photo real quick for this visual example. I
borrowed this photo from http://www.pezcyclingnews.com/ I hope they don't mind
to much.
