Downloaded and installed Flash 8, then started a new project.
Imported a .flv and tried to look at the parameters, it crashed.
Opened it again, selected WIndow/Movie Explorer and it crashed.
Tried an old .flv file (not VP6 codec) and it did the same thing.

Trashed prefs, did the same thing.
Unistalled and reinstalled, did the same thing.

Don't know what to do now.

Yes, I noticed this withing the first 30 minutes of using Flash 8. Trying to
view document properties in any way causes flash to freeze up and all that's
left is a force quit. I was stoked about this release for my animation that
I've been working on for the past few years but with a simple bug like this, it
makes me wonder how stable flash 8 really is. I'll be waiting for a patch
before I transfer over. Sad

Hi All,
I think there must some problem with your comp regarding windows components or
something like that as it's running pretty fine on my machine, my configuration
is windows 2000 + service pack 4, 256 RAM, pentium III

Interesting... there were a few hundred beta testers and we had all the
crashing issues locked up..

Urami's on the right track (as usual). Definitely try more than one
machine to determine what environment variables might be causing it..

Some things that come to mind as possibilities...
-- number of installed fonts?
-- location of FLV (is it on the network or a local drive)
-- Free memory?

Ok that's all I can think of for now...

I'm on a Mac running TIger and I'll continue to blame FLASH, until I can find a better item to throw blame at.

After some testing, I think it's a font issue.
Most likely a missing font that Flash uses for display purposes,
and can't handle it when it's not available.

Hmm. That's not supposed to happen though. It's supposed to throw the
missing font dialog... See if you can narrow down which font it is..

Hi yourself..

Yes, it's for issue tracking. Personally I have a problem when I get on
forums. I get a little obsessive compulsive, spend way too much time in
forums, and then get burnt out! (I guess 10+ years in tech support and
thousands of posts will do that to you.....)

So I've been staying away from forums to sustain my mental health,
really. But with the new release tracking issues is one of my tasks, so
I'll be here for a little while. Team Macromedia does a great job here,
and they have avenues for getting support's attention, so at some point
Ken and I will fade back to our regular work and rely on them.

Well, it's impossible to make perfect software, you know? But we're
trying to improve.. Smile

Well I guess that I'm not the only one.
I did a proyect in MX 2004 and then I couldn't resist the new features of
flash 8 and I changed my proyect from flash MX to flash 8 and I run great!
pretty fine in my laptop and my other pc (windows user) BUT!!! when I tried to
show it to my client (running up on my server he couldn't see the parts that I
changed in flash 8, I think because he has flash player 7,
So if I work in any proyect with flash 8 and somebody using flash 7 wants to
see it they won't be able to see it as they suppose too? I mean you know that
there's people out there that don't update! What Do I have to do? ufff help!!!

irv1ng;
Features introduced in new versions require the newer player to view.
Not sure why you might expect otherwise--most applications don't allow
opening of a newer file format in an older version. Many developers wait for
player penetration to catch up a bit before deploying movies which require a
newer player, but for some work the benefits the newer features provide
outweigh the player download requirement. It's a decision that must be made
on a case by case basis. -Tom Unger

Same problem here - whenever I go to modify a document - Flash 8 crashes and
quits. Using a Dual G5 2ghz with 1 G ram. Never had this problem with mx2004.
Wonderful, we just sold a project based on Flash 8 capabilities, guess we
should have known better than to trust that they would release a functional
product.

LOL, not two seconds after I posted this, I went back and tried modifying a
document in Flash 8. Somehow it worked. This was after NOTHING was changed. I
tried it 6 or 7 times before posting, then went back and now it seems to be
working. Neat. Maybe it'll stop working again right before the project deadline
Smile
