Post subject: Detect software already installed
Archived from groups: macromedia>flash (more info?)

Hello, i am trying to figure out if Flash can and if so how to detect if a
piece of software has already been installed on the users computer. I have a
flash executable. when the cd rom is placed in the computer the menu pops up.
from there the user has several links, one link will install some software.
let's assume the user has now installed the software and later on he/she places
the cd back into their computer and clicks the same link. i need it to detect
that the software is already installed and not over ride the software.

Can anyone help please?

God bless
jason

You can't do it with standard Flash projector. The best way is to
create your own custom app with Flash player embedded and solve all
such tasks at the level of this executable, whereas all interface
aspects will remain in Flash. At least we use just this method when we
need a CD autorun program.
